Eningen to Calne Visit 2026
A twinning visit between Eningen-unter-Achalm and Calne took place from 8 to 12 May 2026 and provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen the long-standing friendship between our two communities.
The
visitors from Eningen included Mayor Eric Sindek, Ute Petrik, senior staff
member from Eningen Council and her partner Rolf, together with Klaus and Luzia
from the Twinning Partnership. During their stay, the group experienced a
varied programme showcasing community life, education, heritage, recreation,
and local culture in Calne and the surrounding area.

Following their arrival on Friday 8 May, the delegation enjoyed lunch in Hilmarton before visiting Marden Vale Academy and taking part in a guided walking tour of Calne led by Nick Baxter. The evening included a traditional fish and chip supper and an informative discussion led by the Ivy Inn team on community ownership of local assets.

Saturday’s programme focused on community and recreation, beginning with visits to the recreation ground to try the Ninja Park and to enjoy a game of Kan Jam using Calne’s new and free to use ‘Box Up’ leisure vending machine. The delegation were then hosted for a visit to the Men’s Shed. After a buffet lunch hosted by Calne Town Council, the visitors attended a bowls taster session at Calne Bowls Club before concluding the day with dinner at Spice of Bengal.

In the afternoon they explored the Hilmarton Scarecrow Trail which was an entirely new experience for our German visitors, before attending the Town Mayor’s drinks reception in the evening.

| Eningen Mayor, Eric, briefly took over as Calne Town Mayor! Sadly, duty calls and he had to return home. |
The visit was greatly appreciated by all involved and further strengthened the friendship and cultural links between Eningen and Calne. Plans are in discussion to visit Eningen in 2027.
If you would like to get involved, please
